Visit Topeka Photo Contest - presented by Topeka Tourism Alliance
Submit your work for the chance to be in the Visit Topeka Art Show, have your photo published in seveneightfive Magazine, and win cash or prizes! Deadline to submit your photos is January 14, 2011. Please read the guidelines for more information. Rules Photographers may enter up to five photos in one of the following categories:
Adults can enter in the professional or amateur category. Generally a professional photographer is someone who earns at least fifty percent of their income from photography, but adults are welcome to choose the category they want to enter. One winner will be selected per category by a panel of judges and awarded with cash or prizes.
Winners will be announced mid-January. Up to 10 photos from each category will be chosen for the Visit Topeka Art Show at the February First Friday ArtWalk at Warehouse 414. Attendees will vote for their favorite photo at the ArtWalk for the People’s Choice award. The First Friday ArtWalk will be held on Friday, February 4, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. As a special bonus, seven - ten images will be featured in the January/February edition of seveneightfive Magazine. What to enter
Please note: if the focus of your photograph is a clearly recognizable individual you must have permission to photograph them and submit a signed model release form. If your photograph includes many people in a public area or an individual who is not identifiable, permission is not required. How to enter Each entry must have a completed entry form, a digital photo file and a print. The digital file should be a JPEG (.jpg) or TIFF (.tif) file that is at least 2 MB in size. Digital files may be emailed to TopekaPhotoContest@gmail.com or submitted to the Visit Topeka office on a thumb/flash drive or CD/DVD disc. Files that are emailed to TopekaPhotoContest@gmail.com cannot exceed 25 MB. Prints must be a minimum of 4x6 inches and a maximum of 8x12 inches and mounted on a flat rigid cardboard or mat board for display in the Visit Topeka Photo Contest Art Show. The photographer’s name and photo title should be listed on the back of every mat board. Updated Information: There is no restriction on mat board colors. You can have your prints professionally matted or put them on mat board yourself. This doesn't have to be expensive, just buy a piece of mat board, thick card stock or thick poster board, cut to size and attach your print to it. Double-sided tape or spray adhesive are both good options for attaching the print. Framewoods of Topeka is offering free mat boards for the first 100 Visit Topeka Photo Contest entries. Photos must meet the contest requirements to qualify for free mat board. Framewoods is located at 3074 SW 29th St in Topeka. Visit Topeka Inc. staff members are not allowed to enter the photo contest. The photo contest is sponsored by Topeka Tourism Alliance, the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, Framewoods of Topeka and Wolfe's. By submitting your photograph, you grant Visit Topeka Inc. the right to use the photograph for the purpose of promoting Topeka for 5 years from the date of acceptance. Visit Topeka Inc. would hold the nonexclusive, worldwide, non-transferable right to use, reproduce, alter, publicly display, sell and distribute the photograph in or on products and in advertising, marketing, samples, and promotional materials for the purpose of promoting Visit Topeka and its objectives. As the photographer you retain all copyright and other intellectual property rights in your photograph. You retain the right to use and license the photography nonexclusively during the period of this license. We’re looking for photos that capture the heart of Topeka. Shots of local events, attractions, traditions and locations are encouraged. Do you love shopping the Downtown Topeka Farmers Market, taking your four-legged friend to Hill’s Bark Park, watching Santa Claus arrive at Great Overland Station or enjoying live music or nightlife? Take your camera with you and get inspired! All photos must be taken in the Topeka area and can include people, outdoor and indoor shots. Photos may be in color or black and white. Posed portraits, country landscapes and close-up flower shots will not be considered. All photos must be from 2010.
